What's happening!
Sadly all this is under threat, and as a community we must fight to safeguard all of this, not just for ourselves, or the thousands of people who walk, cycle and ride through it each year, but for the sake of future generations. Once it’s gone, it really is gone.
Recently a property developer bought Broad View Farm and under the guise of farm diversification has submitted plans to construct a holiday camp and fishing lake. The plan is for fourteen 3 bedroom units, a new vehicular access, car parking and a 1 acre fishing lake. We don’t believe the developer has any interest in tourism. The proximity to the hustle and bustle of the Blacknest trading estate makes it improbable that true holiday makers would enjoy a peaceful holiday. As a community we believe the accommodation will be used to supplement the local housing requirement shortfall.
The development has been “called in” by SDNP as it constitutes a major development and has the potential to have a significant impact on the natural beauty and wildlife of the South Downs National Park and on the promotion of opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the Park by the public, which constitute the statutory purposes for which the South Downs National Park has been designated.
