Main issues

The area of development is within the boundaries of the South Downs National Park, it’s an area recognised as being a landscape of great character and culturally important to us as a nation.

Each unit has the potential to sleep 8 people, 14 of them could easily accommodate over 100 people, which is twice the size of the local population, this will swamp our community and change our way of life forever.

Clearly visible to the users of the nearby public footpath, the units, spread across 200 meters of the landscape, are really unattractive and very far from blending in. They will have a devastating visual effect on the natural beauty of the landscape.

The disturbance created by visitors will have a huge impact on the wildlife and the sensitive protected landscapes the area is so highly regarded for.

The proposed additional lighting will ruin the magnificent dark skies and the celestial wonders currently enjoyed.

The natural clay soils of the area, quickly become waterlogged in wet weather, with an additional 100 people using the local footpaths, they would quickly become impassable to existing users. This would impact on people who regularly use them for their recreation.

The narrow country roads which serve the area have no footpath which makes it very dangerous for school children walking to catch the bus or workers from the trading estate to get from the station safely. The increase in traffic generated by guests, along with the necessary service vehicles would impact greatly on these people along with the numerous cyclists and horse riders who currently use these roads for recreation.

There is no identified need for this development, there is plenty of excellent self-catering and B&B accommodation available locally including 10 new rooms at Blacknest Golf Club.

The proposal is totally out of keeping with the local area, it would have a devastating impact on the tranquillity of the area.
